Heartbreak and Art

Heartbreak is the great disrupter. It can decimate the sweetest life into a thousand pieces. Though romance has broken many hearts, there are many other culprits, such as crushing pain…an unfortunate side effect.

Divorce

Death of a loved one

Friend breakup

Shunned by (friends, family, group, society)

Abandoned

Ghosted

Rejected

Cancelled

Fired

Overlooked

Forgotten

Replaced

The list of soul stingers is long.

Sometimes, a situation is minuscule in comparison to what one has endured, but that one

Blow

Took down the entire foundation.

Take your broken heart and make it into art.
— Carrie Fisher

Sometimes, we’re meant to be broken. Call it your karmic purpose, your lesson, or just the price for admission. We’re not exempt from pain—it’s part of the deal. It sucks but it's required growth for being human. The greatest gifts come from the most profound surrender and the deepest pain. However, when you’re in it, it sure doesn’t feel like it. The last thing one wants to hear is, “This will be a good thing. One day, you will find the silver lining.”

“Really? I’m going to like that someone just crushed my heart?”

“I’m supposed to just get over that giant betrayal?”

Nope.

But something will happen alongside your grief if you’re open.

A new, different you emerges.

What happened becomes your story.

While you may not have signed up for a hero’s f**king journey, it found you nonetheless. So, what was the gift or lesson? Has it made itself known yet or are you still in the WTF portion of the adventure?

As Carrie Fisher so beautifully said, “Take your broken heart and make it into art.”

So the question becomes…

What’s your masterpiece?
